$30,259,024 in federal funding from USDOT’s Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program will be awarded to the Oregon Department of Transportation, which will be used to improve a two-mile stretch of Highway 126 in Lane County. The project will involve the construction of dual-lane roundabouts on Highway 126 at Huston Road and Ellmaker Road, widening the road, improving railroad crossings, and adding a left-turn lane to improve rural connectivity and enhance road safety.

KEZI reported:

Oregon U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), and U.S. Representative Val Hoyle (D-Ore.) said on January 9 that ODOT will receive $30,259,024 in federal funding for construction work along about two miles of Highway 126 near Veneta and Elmira between Huston Road and Lakeside Drive. The funds were secured through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program and, along with the roundabout construction, will also widen the road between the intersections from two to four lanes, construct wider shoulders, add a left-turn lane at Lakeside Drive, and implement railroad crossing improvements at the Huston Road intersection, state officials said.

“Rural Oregonians must have quality and dependable roads, and this federal investment will help achieve those goals along this nearly two-mile stretch of OR 126,” said Sen. Wyden. “Delivering real results just like these is why I worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and I’ll keep pressing to make sure this historic law keeps delivering similar infrastructure wins that make our entire state an even better place to live and work.”

Rep. Voyle said that the project is critical to ensuring safe driving conditions for motorists.

“This funding is critical to improve the safety of OR 126 and ensure our infrastructure remains dependable for Oregonians,” said Hoyle. “I am grateful to state and local partners who have been working for a long time for these vital infrastructure investments. I’m excited to see work finally begin.”
