CivMetrics collects economic and business conditions data for the largest MSAs in the United States. We’re posting some of our insights here. In this installment, we look at restaurant bookings data from OpenTable. Where have restaurant bookings rebounded from COVID, and where are they still down?

At the bottom of this page, you can find a full table of restaurant bookings data for 40 cities. But first, a couple highlights.

First, it’s evident that restaurant bookings in the largest U.S. cities have not recovered; of the 10 largest U.S. cities, only Miami has seen restaurant bookings above Sep 2019 levels. Meanwhile, bookings in New York and Philadelphia are still down severely.

Even as the average US city’s restaurant bookings are still down 12% from Sep 2019, some cities are flourishing. Which cities have seen the biggest increase in bookings?

Finally, in the table below you can sort all 40 cities in the dataset.
