CivMetrics analyzed the 990 filings of all medium and large nonprofit museums ($500k+ revenue) in top U.S. cities. We’re posting some of our insights here. In this installment, we look at museum total revenues and assets in the 10 largest U.S. cities.
Which cities have museums with the most revenues and assets? For this analysis, we separated the sample into type categories: art museums and all other museums.
We illustrate that art museums in major cities take in much more revenue than non-art museums; and revenues of large institutions dwarf everyone else, with the largest museums towering over their modestly-sized peers.
We also analyzed total assets for the same cities.
